Counselor for Northwestern US and portions of Arkansas
Where are you from? Originally I’m from Longview, TX, but I spent 2008-2014 in Fayetteville, Ar attending college at the University of Arkansas, coaching in Springdale, and serving in various churches as a Children’s Pastor, Evangelism Pastor, and Associate Millennials Pastor. From 2014-2016 I was in Louisville, Ky attending The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary pursuing my Master of Divinity in Expository Preaching and Church Planting.
Major in college? UofA: Exercise Science & Physical Education The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: Expository Preaching & Church Planting
Why are you working at Ecclesia? I believe in the mission and values of Ecclesia and as a current bi-vocational pastor am thrilled to be partnering with Ecclesia in the training and mentoring of the future Christian leaders in the United States. My goals at Ecclesia are two-fold: 1. To grow the student body population and see that they are discipled effectively and biblically. 2. To connect students to the local church and connect local churches to the students of Ecclesia so that the students can be effectively ministered to and have opportunities to “live their life on mission” in whatever field they go into.
What do you love most about EC? I have enjoyed hearing the stories of how Ecclesia has used students throughout the past 40 years to expand the Kingdom of God, and I love that Ecclesia makes it a priority to disciple and mentor students from their Freshman year to their Senior year and beyond.
What do you enjoy about NWA (Northwest Arkansas? Having lived here for 6 years beforehand I can safely say that I am an expert on all the local places to eat and be entertained. I have said for years that Northwest Arkansas is a miniature version of Austin, TX where they are known for the funky-fresh atmosphere, the local food atmosphere, and the arts/entertainment districts. Northwest Arkansas has all that and more while still being an amazing place to do outdoor rec and be an avid outdoorsman. It’s a mashup of Nashville & Denver that just works really well. The coffee, food truck, hiking, music, and lake scene are incredible and if you only spend a week in Northwest Arkansas or 20 years you will fall in love with it forever.
What three words would you use to describe yourself? Redeemed, Intentional, Missional
Name one thing on your bucket list. Hike the entire Appalachian Trail from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mount Katahdin, Maine
What advice would you give to an incoming EC student? Do not hesitate to get involved in a local church, the quicker you become apart of a local body of believers the quicker you will be blessed and ministered to and find community outside of Ecclesia. At any Bible college or seminary it is easy to stay in the “Christian Bubble”, but by joining a church outside of the “bubble” it exposes you to a swath of people from all walks of life and gets you involved in the nitty gritty of discipleship and doing life with other people.
What are your long-term goals? Plant a church in Denver in the next 5-10 years, pursue a Ph.D in Expository Preaching and Church History, write more books, get married, adopt from China, help plant churches in China and other countries in the 10/40 window, and hopefully live my life in a way that glorifies God always and shows that I enjoy Him more than any worldly pleasure.
